Who does the best Marshall Mods?

JeffB

Let it B
I'm thinking of getting my 1987X (1995/96 model..no loop) modded. One because I've always wanted a modded Marshall, and two; because I'd like to have a second amp if I run into troubles like I am now w/ my MESA.

I've checked out Splawn, Voodoo, and David Bray's websites and clips. Who else should I be looking at for mods?

Also anyone here have a Splawn/Bray/Voodoo modded marshals/other amp? if so, talk to me ;) :D

Re: Who does the best Marshall Mods?

Check out Mark Cameron...he's hard to get ahold of, though.

Re: Who does the best Marshall Mods?

Voodoo are my favorite. I live a little over an hour from them, good stuff. I really like their Marshall standard mods.

Re: Who does the best Marshall Mods?

I'm partial to Splawn and I actually own one of his handmade amps. Excellent quality, easy to get ahold of and the friendliest best customer service I've ever dealt with by any company EVER.

Re: Who does the best Marshall Mods?

Thanx folks :)

Anyone else have some suggestions?

One thing In Splawn's favor is the footswitchable lead/rhythm mode on their mod. Just my thing, as over the years I've tended to set up my "crunch" sound (really it's fairly high gain), and then just use a pedal to goose the amp for leads (set drive low, and volume high on the box). The Splawn would prolly eliminate the need for that.

Pedals are fun, but I prefer to get the sound out of the amp itself for better tonal quality and then use a box or two for chorus, phasing, etc.

Re: Who does the best Marshall Mods?

Your 100% right, and I do the same thing. Its a necessity if your going to play live. The Splawn footswitch is great, heavy duty steel case and very rugged.

you know JeffB, I just noticed, we have some guitars in common, PRS custom24 and Wolfgang and alot of the same influences ala Yngwie, Moore, Lee etc.. I'm thinking you'l really dig the Splawn.

Re: Who does the best Marshall Mods?

I was lucky enough to have my Marshall modded by Harry Kolbe, but now that he's doing Atomic, he's out of the modding biz ...

I've heard great things about Voodoo, and that's not too far from your location, is it not?? (Sorry, but my mental map is a bunch of white spaces outside of NYC, like a 16th century map ... "Outside of the City, there be Dragons" :) )

+1 for splawn...my custom made quick rod should be here in a few days

I know Jeff Seal posts here a lot, you might want to give him a try.

Re: Who does the best Marshall Mods?

I had a voodoo mod done and it sounds exactly as I asked for it to sound. They have great service. Trace will talk to you forver to get exactly what you want. My combo (JCM 800) sounds fuller with much more gain but with clarity. Ity even sounds great at low volume. Great guy and exactly what you want. I sent a 5 song cd of songs. They voice the amp to sound like it. I now have an 80's metal monster.

Re: Who does the best Marshall Mods?

We're about 3.5 to 4 hours from NYC (from the GW) so it's not too bad of a drive. You are more than welcome to come up and check out the shop, jam on some amps we have here, talk shop, etc. We can also mod your amp (if you decide to go that route) while you wait. That way you can play on the amp and when you leave you have *exactly* what you want :) Feel free to call the shop and ask to speak with either myself or Anthony, either of us can answer any and all questions that you may have.

Have a great weekend my friend! :)

I'm *very* happy to hear you are enjoying the tones! Thanks so very much for the overly kind words and support, it's sincerely appreciated my good sir. If you need anything what so ever please do not hesitate to ask (it does not have to be amp related).

Have a good weekend!
