Not really sure how many are "handwound" but as far as small shop/custom ordered pickups go, not sure you can find one cheaper than Wilde Bill Lawrence.

I agree with the pricing on the Lawrence "Wilde" pickups.
In the UK there are quite a number of "boutique" winders offering pickups at very fair prices. There used to be Swineshead, but they went out of business.

This is an old thread, but I'd have to ask anyone looking for an answer to this "What are you looking for, and what can't you find from any stock pickups currently made?". Custom handmade things aren't really inexpensive. And they shouldn't be.

One good thing about handwound is that every pickup is somewhat unique.
Bad thing is that they don't all come out the same. lol

In that case ......Who ever is winding pickups should really learn to take notes ...on handing winding the winder should take a closer look at what is making a difference if pickups are coming out different...
