Who here plays a baritone? Should I get one? Show your baritone!

Re: Who here plays a baritone? Should I get one? Show your baritone!

I don’t currently play one but I’d love to buy one. The MM, from what I gather are a nice guitar. If your price is right and it is structurally sound...go for it.

im not home so cant snap a pic but i have a custom made rick turner model t baritone, the only one in existence as far as i know. not your typical baritone but it sounds terrific

I really like my Ibanez TAM10. It’s a 27” 8 string.

Finding the right string gauge is tough. Once strings start hitting over .060”, the different brands start sounding very, very different. At the moment, I have D’Addario NYXLs on it, gauged 9,11,16,24,32,44,60,80, tuned standard with a low F# and B. I sometimes drop the low strings to E and A, which still has plenty of tension.

Alright thanks, I've got a line on a Mike Mushok PRS but I'm just not sure yet. Plus, it comes with some crappy practice amp and cheap accessories that the guy won't sell the guitar without, and I don't want the extras.

Re: Who here plays a baritone? Should I get one? Show your baritone!

I have an Ibanez MMM1 which is the predecessor to the PRS you’re looking at, it’s a great guitar for what I require (a baritone for Drop A in order to play death metal and progressive metal riffs while not having to use telephone lines as strings.)
I use NYXL 12-68 for Drop A and it’s stable as hell.
I also have a Jericho Elite 6 Baritone with an Evertune bridge but has a shorter scale of 27inches.
I’m currently on the waiting list for a Custom Daemoness Baritone with Evertune.
The PRS guitars seem like a cool option at a good price so I would just try it to see if you like it.

I have a Schecter for sale on Reverb. Its 6 string. So you can play B standard like a 6 string guitar. It's 26.5 inch scale.

A# standard tuning here.
Regular tuning is B.

I prefer putting heavy strings on normal guitars to get a baritone effect. I have several Gibsons in C standard.

I've never even played a baritone.

I wouldn’t consider C standard a baritone effect, since standard for baritones is a whole step lower than that.

I would love an acoustic baritone guitar.
Which one would you recommend?

Re: Who here plays a baritone? Should I get one? Show your baritone!

there is something cool about a 27" scale tuned b to b. the 72 low string is just awesome

Agreed. But I use Daddario 14-68. I should try your 72 low string because now I also tune A# to A#

Re: Who here plays a baritone? Should I get one? Show your baritone!

I have a line on a minty Mike Mushok PRS baritone for a decent price.

Talk me into, or out of it!

Mine is an evolution of the discontinued Mike Mushok. I won't talk you out of it.
You probably noticed you don't see so many second hand PRS 277 or MM. There is a reason why. So if you can get one...

The only reason to get out of it IMO would be to prefer a 7 strings (26"5 for example), two different beasts.

Here's a pic of mine :
PRS SE 277 Semi-Hollow Soapbar 2016 (already discontinued) - 27"7 scale
