Who put the DUMB in DUMBLE

Re: Who put the DUMB in DUMBLE

Who are the nimbrods who figurered it was ok to spend the B-I-G $$$ B-U-C-K-S on a Dumble amp. I"ve played one before and they are nice. But I"ve heard of people plunking down $20,000- $30,000 on these amps. Yah, they really sound good, but people have paid the above mentioned money and waited 4-6 years to have one built.Honestly I have played amps in the $1,000- $2,000 range that were easily as good.Ok, Robben Ford plays on one, and a few others, but the hype of these things is off the charts. If you have deep pockets or are brain damaged, knock yourself out.

Welcome to capitalism.

I have heard $2000.00 dollar amps that sound just as good as a Dumble. There's a sucker born every minute.

Re: Who put the DUMB in DUMBLE

The important question is, are Dumbles bright orange?

If they're not, then I'm not interested.

Really?

Those suckers like Robben Ford, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Larry Carlton (all Dumble users) aren't born every minute...wish they were. There'd be alot more great guitarists.

People buy expensive amps. People buy expensive cars. People buy expensive watches, houses, food, computers, etc. Why knock them? No one is forcing you to buy a Dumble. "There's a sucker born every minute" doesn't apply to a legitimate (and great) product.

(Note: this doesn't mean I'm planning on saving 10K for my next amp, this is my way of trying to de-rail a useless argument)

Re: Who put the DUMB in DUMBLE

I had one a long time ago and sold it for $4300 USD ($5000 CAD) to a guy in Connecticut (around '92-'93)..I remember thinking "Wow, I just made 5 G's from an amp head!!"..Now i'm kicking myself..I could easily get $20000 for it now...I did the same thing with my '57 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty..Sold it at around the same time for $18000 USD..Now they sell for about $60-$75000...Arrgghh!! :17:

Great Players indead Lew, SRV mostly used Fenders. Check out this link.

Stevie used alot more than just fender's. He had a custom box that split his signal to six different amps. You are correct in saying that Stevie used alot of Fender amps including a couple of Super Reverbs and his two very prized '64 Vibroverbs with consecutive serial numbers 5 and 6. But he also used two 150 watt Dumble "Steel String Singers" that he called "King Tone Consoles."

SRV and Dumbles

You don't use the Super Reverbs now?
"Right now, I use a Dumble 150 watt. He calls it the Steel String Singer; I call it the King Tone Consoul [laughs] - that's s-o-u-l. It's like an overgrown Fender tube amp. Some Dumbles - like the Overdrive Special - you 've got to know what you 're doing with them, because they'll get away from you and take you with 'em."

Are your Dumbles Overdrive Specials?
"Steel String Singers. I like them much better."
