Who repairs Duncans?

I have this great JB that made the rounds of my guitars for years until it finally went belly up. It reads really high on the multimeter. Maybe there's a short in there somewhere?

Anyway, is there any chance of getting it fixed? Does SD do it in the custom shop or something? How much would something like that cost?

Thanks in advance for your replies everyone...

Re: Who repairs Duncans?

By "high", do you mean infinite? A "short" would cause it to read low, and an "open" would cause it to read infinite. Some meters though, will read like 1.999 when over-range.

Whats the actual reading. Also, put the meter on its lowest DC volts range and bring a screwdriver up against the poles, (gently), then yank it away. See if you get a reading. Read black/white, then red/green.

Sorry, Artie...

As usual, you give me awesome feedback and I drop the ball.

I already disconnected it. I wasn't sure if it was me, so I took it to a tech. He said it was ridiculously high. So, I'm guessing that that would be an open. I have no idea how that happened, do you?

Re: Who repairs Duncans?

The wire in a pickup is tiny. Its not that unusual for one to break. ALso, you have the connection between that coil wire and a short lead to bring it out to the main cable, and then the connection between that lead and the connection cable. There are several opportunitys for a break.

Btw - if you're in Hawaii, you must be up late. Its about 5:15am here.

Re: Who repairs Duncans?

So, the pickup is a bust, huh...that sucks.

Yeah, over here it's about 12:20 AM. I'm just winding down after another long day of teaching. oh, by the way, I agree with you about parallel; it sounds great.

Aloha for your answers so far. I guess I'll have to throw out my favorite pickup. It's a sad day...

No . . . wait! Don't throw it away. If its one of those lead wires, they can usually be fixed. Just depends on where the break is. If you want to gamble shipping, I'll take a look at it for you. I've replaced cables, and I repaired a broken coil once. But the break was at the very outside.

Just depends on where its broken. Also, if one coil is good, that coil, along with the base and magnet, have value to some of us hybriders.

Re: Who repairs Duncans?

O.k...

I'll be glad to send it to you. Please email me at: zachary_oliver@heald.edu

I'll put in the mail ASAP.

Mahalo for everything, Artie. Every time I have a question you come through for me. I really appreciate it.

It keeps me coming back to this board.

Re: Who repairs Duncans?

NP problem dude. But you might want to send it to artie first to see if he can fix it. Unless you're really excited about paying $80 to have a $50 pickup rewound.

Re: Who repairs Duncans?

Aloha; If you haven't already sent it, Jeremy has the ability to rewind one if needed, while I don't. If you have already sent it, I'd be happy to forward it to Jeremy if its something beyond my capabilities.

Your pup will have a nice vacation. :)

Re: Who repairs Duncans?

I'd send it to the Duncan Custom Shop and have it rewound into the pickup of your dreams...whatever that is. (Maybe it's that JB!) Lew
