Whoaa... Tubes tubes tubes

I was wondering what effect replacing the 6L6's in my Powerball with 6550's or KT88's would have?

Good or bad? Anyone had any experience with this?

General ideas?

HUH?

It depends on what sound you want. Like pick ups, valves have a sound thats unique to themselves. If you want more or less drive, early or late break up... it's better to change the pre amp valves anyway. If you change the power valves you'll need to have the amp re-biased or it may damage your amp. I'd speak to an AMP TECH first in any case!

never tried it in a powerball but it should give you a tighter more focused tone, big and clean is what the 6550 or kt88 will give you. typically youll have loads of power section headroom

tighter is exactly what I want...

also, i probably won't do this myself, ill get it sent away. I love my PB but I want to **** around with it until I get my sound.

Which is tighter, 6550 or the KT88. I know VHT use KT88's...

Cheers guys!!!

Re: Whoaa... Tubes tubes tubes

i've tried the sovtek 6550wd (6550 with smaller 6l6 base so it fit as a direct replacement) in my budda. they were extremely clean and clear but i think i like the 6l6s better. the 6550's ore kt88's pretty much wont distort or add much flavor to the amp so mine turned out to be fizzy sounding.
