Re: Whole Lotta Love

Hey Jack,

Welcome!

There's a fair number of books on Amazon.com you can check out that will have pages on music theory, scales and chords, technique and the like. My suggestion is to peruse the books online and find something that matches what you're after.

I listened to your clips online and am impressed with what you've done, especially considering the fact that you've been playing for just a few months. The two pieces of advice that come to mind are (1) practice with a metronome to get used to playing in tempo and (2) build up fret-hand strength by slowly bending notes up half a step and back then a whole step and back, making sure the note rises and falls smoothly and reaches the destination note (i.e., the note you're bending up to) all the way without falling flat or rising sharp. Man, I hope that made sense; that's one convoluted sentence.

Hangin' with the bros on this forum will help lots, too. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I've been playing for years and still ask a ton of questions. There's always someone glad to help out a fellow axe grinder.

Re: Whole Lotta Love

one thing that definitely helps alot is to learn entire songs. alot of people i know who have played for a year or less like to learn the solos to songs and not learn the rest of the song, i.e. the chord sequence/key changes. learning the chords will help to realize similarities between solos in songs.

you do show promise though, i wasnt even attempting solos like that one 7 months into playing. i was still working on power chords, lol.

Re: Whole Lotta Love

yeah ive been learning song mostly up untill now which has help my playing, but what i really want to do it write my own songs so im get my teacher to teach me scales (for the first little while so i can make my own solos around the chords in each scale), then i wanna start learning about how to make chords within scales, then find scales relevant to different sets of chords and also about chord progression and such.

and thanks for the comment about the solo...i also had time to record another version of the solo for the song i wrote- a bit more controlled and thought out to an extent. i'll post the whole song minus my singing it cause i really hate my voice. any advice for it as well would be awsome, cause right now its basically a Aminor i belive and a Dmajor (in the verse broken up), same chords is chorus and solo background.
