Whole Lotta Magnet Swap?

Has anyone tried different magnets in the WLH bridge pickup? I'm considering trying a UOA5. I've had this set (with covers) in two different guitars and the bridge is a little thin and bright when overdriven. It's most pronounced on the higher strings. I love the set otherwise. I don't know if I want to go A2 or A3 and lose what I already like. Thanks.

A2's don't have much high end, and may be too much in that direction for what you want. A3's are brighter than an A2, but the top is soft, not sharp like an A5. UOA5's are closest to an A2 in tone, but with a little more treble and a little less mids.

Yep. That's why I was leaning towards the UOA5. I'm still curious if anyone has tried any other magnets in the WLH. Thanks!

I like the bridge WLH as is, but would like to brighten the neck. Unfortunately it already has an A5, so I have to it with spin-a-spilt and 1meg pots.

OK Mr. Wise guy... Well I did it. So there. It did fatten it up just a tad and knock down the brightness a little. It seems to have also reduced some of the compression it had too. I'm not 100% sure I like it or not. It may have lost some complexity. I'll leave it in a while and see. Sometimes pickups seem to kind of break in. Or I just get used to them.

A4 sounds interesting too. I have some pickups with A4 and like them. I don't want to change the neck at all. it works great clean or dirty. Thanks.

Definitely give the new magnet a few days to settle in.

Re: Whole Lotta Magnet Swap?

Well after playing the guitar (Gibson SG) a lot, I went back to the original magnet. It just has a certain something. I swapped out the .022uf tone cap for .047uf. That seems to have done the trick. I could get close to what I wanted before by rolling the tone down to about 8, but swapping the cap with the tone on 10 is the ticket. Thanks!

Re: Whole Lotta Magnet Swap?

I think a3 would be very interesting in these if I was going to experiment.

Re: Whole Lotta Magnet Swap?

If I were to mod a pair, I would put a UOA5 in the bridge and an A4 in the neck.
