Somebody started one of these threads in the guitar section which I share some of my projects in ,so I thought I would start one here in the bass section
Here is a few pics of my latest bass build in progress to get the ball rolling
5 string fanned fret 34-35.5" scale ,Bubinga/Paduak body ,Purpleheart/Ash neck

Come on people ,surely someones working on a build besides me
Got my custom made truss rod from the engineers today so I routed the channel for it - will glue it in tomorrow with epoxy

Looks like you're the lone ranger here sadly. Either that or nobody dares to put their kit bass up against your masterpiece.

I'm in the process of putting together a '51 style P-bass... a Lake Placid blue Squire body, rosewood fingerboard, and a PCNW vintage style pickup... Don't have much I need to do to it, just need a quiet afternoon to do it... which I won't have for at least another month. *Facepalm*

One day I may fashion a neck through 5 string based upon a single piece of ironwood. We shall see.

Trying to decide if that'd need a truss rod or not...

Either way, you'll need to but new tools halfway through... And probably a new spine, after a year or two...

Time isn't the only issue - I'm renovating and preparing for a move, after having moved last month.

End result: I know I have all the parts, but I'm no longer sure WHERE THEY ARE.

Got my fretboard glued on ,and frets are in and leveled

Today's job was carving the rear neck profile ,a job I used to be hesitant about but now look forward too and enjoy


cleaned up the file marks with a cabinet scraper


Hours of sanding ahead - did I mention how much I H8 sanding

I'm (re)building my old Hondo J-style, but after seeing your immaculate work, I don't know if I wanna pollute your thread with it... Dang that looks good!
