I love my Attax, it's a killer amp. When mic'ing it up it thumps....too much! I can turn the bass completely off and it's still thumping hard and farts on the mic, not the amp...the mic. Am I doing something wrong here? It's a Marshall 1960A cab padded inside and Hellatone V30's.

How are you EQ'ed at the board and where do you set your crossover if you are biamping? Maybe the soundman is setting the crossover too high or maybe you need a different mic or experiment with placement.

Live it's fine....sorry shoulda said this is when recording....flat EQ into Nuendo.

Re: Why do I have this problem?

Try a different Mic... I've had amazing results with a Peavey PVM22 regardless of how loud the amp in front of it is. The PVM22 is built on the same priciple as the Shure Beta 57. It's very hot and very dynamic and tough as nails.

If you are using a 57 or a 57 type mic - you can mess with placement a lot. You may be hearing the proximety effect of close placement. Another option is to use a little compression on the inbound signal (just as much as is needed - no need to squish the life out of it).
