Why does Duncan do this to the YJM Fury?

Whenever I install the YJM Fury's I have to remove not only the outside black sheath, but underneath that is a green aluminum foil type of wrap. Once I got a slight cut in it I can unwrap it, but getting it going can take me 10 minutes or a few more.

Not sure why that wrap is even there?

the foil is for shielding, but also might subtly change the tone but its so small no one would notice

I have never experienced a change of tone just by removing that wrap. I have a YJM Fury in the neck of my Hendrix Strat, and the pickup sounds awesome.

I only remove what needs to be removed.

I think they may have it there by design, kinda like the Trembuckers.

Yeah, I don't see why it needs to be removed? Are you having trouble swapping the covers to something else or something?

You're talking about the 4 conductors cable?

Like this? https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-u8e.../Wire_-_4_Conductor__40286.1533322138.jpg?c=2

In any case, aluminium wrap is for shielding, as stated by jeremy. And what he was saying about tone is due to the fact that a shielding foil around coils alters some magnetic properties, with a possible tonal change.

Removing the shielding at the end of a 4-conductors cable shouldn't change the sound, of course (albeit it might change a tiny wee bit the capacitive balance between coils and modify at imperceptible levels their resonance in the extreme high range. LOL).

In some situations, I've passed much more than 10mn to struggle with pickups installation, for the record.

Enjoy with your Fury's: they were not designed to make players infuriated - although they certainly refer to a furious musician. :-)

All of the 4-conductor hookups have that foil. Just remove what you need. I use proper wire cutters to remove the out black sheath and then peel what I need to remove of the foil to work with the hookup wires.
