why is my looper humming?

When i put the boss single pedal looper at the end of my pedal board, it gives off a high pitched hum that is not normal. I am running all of my pedals with the visual sound one spot and 2 daisy chains.

How can I eliminate this?

Are you using a power supply other than the recommended Boss supply? I had this happen when I used a third party PS with the double looper pedal.

Why is it humming? Cuz it doesn't know the words!

Sorry...it's an old joke. LOL!

Re: why is my looper humming?

One piece of gear that has eliminated all my pedalboard gremlins is the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power II. The electronic isolation of all the pedals is the key. Another source of gremlins is when you've got some pedals on the power supply, and some with power cables going to a power strip.

I also use a loop box, but have no problems anymore. Here's my signal chain.
Wah - Dist - OD - OD - dual loop box (L6 and tuner on loops) - Flange - Chorus - Amp. That way, all my signal is true bypass, until the loop box brings in my L6's.

Also, sometimes, when you run 1 or 2 amps, and use a pedalboard that's plugged into the wall, something becomes a ground loop, and that's where the hum comes from. It's driven me crazy in the past, especially in a place with dirty electricity.

I would imagine that is probably the issue. Check out the Ebtech Hum Eliminator. In the mean time, you could try eliminating each pedal one at a time to see if you can find a culprit.

Re: why is my looper humming?

Well my whole pedal board is powered by the Visual Sound one spot, and it doesn't do what my looper causes when it is not connected, but when when I add it at he end with the one spot it does it, I will have to try to go pedal by pedal because I got two additional pedals and when I used the looper before that it didn't do it....

Re: why is my looper humming?

My boss RC-20xl needed a different to standard power supply. i cant remember what type though . check the manual

Re: why is my looper humming?

does it squeal/hum only when used with a high gain pedal?

my loop-master looper had the same problem when used with distortion pedals. turning the volume knob on my guitar even altered the pitch of the squeals...

i tried different cables, batteries and power supplies. i even replaced all my pots to no avail. the problem went away when i had a buffered pedal placed before the dirt pedal. in this case, it was a boss ph-1r.

till today, i still have no blooming clue what causes the squeal/hum between a looper and high gain pedals...
