Why is the Pearly Gates so much more expensive?

Hey guys, I just noticed the PG is ~30-40€ over the price of the other "normal" Humbuckers... why is this? (Or is this just over here?)

Same as the Sremon Demon....Maybe cause it was connected somehow with a famous player....??????? Almost like a custom wound pickup.

Hmm... but it's not even a sig pup... at least not directly
It's just I'm currently deciding between a PG and a Custom because I feel the need for something with more agressive mids... and I am concerned that the Custom may be a bit too compressed...

I would think the Custom(If it's ceramic magnet)would be tighter,more aggressive and upfront in tone for you....Strong,powerful,and direct in my thinking,though I'm never a ceramic guy!

It is more compressed than the PG, but it's a good compression.

If you feel it's too compressed, turn it into a C5.

The Custom is a much hotter than vintage pickup...more output than the PG.

I don't think the Custom has an inherantly "compressed" tone at all...that's more a function of the way you play or dial your tone in on the amp.

In my guitar, I can easily make the Custom sound like a hot 59B...nice and open. Or if I use a lot more overdrive than I can dial in a more "modern" and compressed overdriven tone.

But the Custom pickup itself doesn't sound compressed to me...unless I want it to sound that way.

Also, I can make a 59B sound just as compressed as the Custom if I go for a more overdriven tone on my amp and maybe throw a DS-1 into the mix.

So I guess what I'm saying is that the Custom will sound like whatever you want it to.

I'd make my choice between the PG or the Custom based on what output I wanted. Hot and modern rock output from the Custom...Vintage 50's Les Paul output from the PG.

Yeah i agree with lew, i also think people worry about the differences in duncan pickups in the same class too much. As Lew said you can dial in your sound, different pickups make very small differences. Its mostly the sound of the guitar, strings, and amp that makes most of the difference. In order i would say

I smoothed out my Custom by changing the magnet to an A8. Take a look at this these threads dealing with A8 or Custom 8.

It's the same here too. When a 'star' attaches his/her name to a product (endorsement), royalties must be paid to the 'star' for each unit sold. Inherently, I would not believe the Demon nor the PG cost more to make than any of the other production models in their genre.

I don't know if Gibbons is getting paid or not.He is never mentioned by name by Duncan. I think the PG's are from the "Pro Shop" line like the CC and Demon which is why they are bit more.
