Wilkinson vs. Hardtail

OK, I'm going to get off my butt and order my new Warmoth project. It's going to be a swamp ash strat with humbuckers and a Graphtech piezo bridge. I've already tried the humbuckers in my hardtail swamp ash strat, so I know that this should sound pretty sweet.

My question is: if I go for a non-recessed Wilkinson trem that rests flush on the body, will it have the same sustain and tonal characteristics as a hardtail?

Re: Wilkinson vs. Hardtail

I imagine that it would not sound quite the same as a hardtail. You'll have an extra body cavity, first of all, as well as the springs inside that cavity that will affect the sound. Plus, your bridge will move.

I prefer hardtails to trems, since I don't do a whole lot of that kind of guitar work. They have a more solid tone to them, the notes just don't go anywhere.
