Will a BASEPLATE work under a STACK p/u, such as STK-S4 ??

Will a BASEPLATE work under a STACK p/u, such as STK-S4 ??

- Also, will they work under bar-magnet p/ups - like humbuckers, & single-coil-sized-humbuckers? (Lil '59, Lil JB, Lil Demon, Duckbuckers..)

Or does the "magnetic circuit" not work that way?

Not a clue what your trying to do... when you say baseplate exactly what do you mean? Humbuckers already have baseplates or do you mean something else? Pictures wold help here.

Like under a Tele bridge p/u. -Steel with a copper or brass plating, or plain steel. Fralin & some others sell ones that fit under Strat pickups.

It's supposed to shape/reflect the magnetic field upward. Supposed to give a little more output, a little more bass, a little more twang.

IDK what Duncan humbucker baseplates are made of, I don't think it's steel.. Just curiosity there..

It does seem like it would be cool with an STK-S4, - If it works that way..

Re: Will a BASEPLATE work under a STACK p/u, such as STK-S4 ??

Ah ok... what your talking about is actually the flat work... you cant just add the flat work to a strat pickup. There are a few strat pickups out there that are cross bred with telepickups to do this such as the http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/stratocaster/vintage-output/twang_banger_ap/ What your thinking of with the stack though would be something you would have to have made in the custom shop its not something available in duncans production line pickups. But if you dont mind the hum check out the twang banger

Re: Will a BASEPLATE work under a STACK p/u, such as STK-S4 ??

A baseplate can't be added for the STK pickups. There's a circuit board and very small resistor there that is for "fine tuning" the hum cancellation during manufacturing. The bottom of the slugs aren't seen there so the baseplate would have little to no effect on the magnetic field like it would with a traditional single-coil where the bottom of the rod magnets are seen at the bottom.

The twangbanger is a cool place to start with what you're looking for, just not noiseless.

"...you cant just add..."
Um, yes you can.. ;) - It may not work at all with stack p/ups, but with regular Strat p/u, it's just another piece of steel you slap on under everything else.
Fralin sells them expressly for this purpose.

The thickness of that circuit board might put it too for away from the magnet rods, IDK.
It doesn't have to TOUCH them though.. so maybe..

Um, yes you can.. ;)
You SPECIFICALLY asked about the STK-S4, and the answer still is no.

Anyway, what are you trying to accomplish by putting a metal baseplate under it?

Inquiring minds would like to know. :cool2:

Yes, My question was about the STKs. Edgecrusher was saying you can't put them on ANY Strat p/ups, but of course you can, so I was pointing this out..

What do I want? - I love the STK-S4 sound. I'd like to have one with a touch more output, & twang. - If I just get a hotter wind, it will be darker, & less "single-coil-ish.."
I could just use the STK-S2 Hot Stack. - I like those too.

Just the usual crazy gears turning in my head. ;)

Re: Will a BASEPLATE work under a STACK p/u, such as STK-S4 ??

Hmm. I suppose the pole pieces are short on a stack? & the pickup is tall, & the circuit board. - - Baseplates are out.. Nevermind. ;)

I'm not too clear how different the STK-S6,-S7,-S9 are. Just going by the tone chart, they look a lot more bassy, less treble-y than S4... Hard to tell.

You said "like a under a tele bridge pickup" this would involve changing the whole flat work. Just adding a shim of metal is different from changing to an actual tele style flat work. Your not very clear with what your actually thinking of doing. Your only option is still exactly like i said before. Talk to the custom shop.

OK, forget I ever said anything about Tele pickups. - It's VAGUELY SIMILAR in concept.

I think I have been ABSOLUTELY CRYSTAL CLEAR on what I was talking about.

- Fralin, and some others sell just a Strat-pickup-shaped shim, metal plate, to go under Strat pickups.

- It's an ADD ON, you don't have to build it in..

- I have mentioned this several times. - GOOGLE it.. ;) - I don't know if you're not reading my posts, or don't believe me, or what.. I'm sure you want to help..

And YES, at this point we have determined that it almost certainly wouldn't work under a STK stack, which answers my original question.

- It WON'T WORK, I GET IT, NO PROBLEM.. moving on..

If I were worried about it enough to call the custom shop, they would basically be making something from scratch. - I'm not that worried about it.

- It was just a curious musing..

Of course it's possible with a traditional Strat pickup. Not only are there the plates that Fralin sells, there's the Twangbanger that has it installed already. It seems like somebody wasn't reading between the lines and getting the "in a similar vein" aspect of the question.

As for the different STK models, you might like the Vintage Hot Stack Plus. It's like an overwound Classic Stack Plus. Don't let the tone chart fool ya. It's just a guideline.

OK thanks! Yeah, I know you have to take the tone chart with a grain of salt. :)
