That amp has some of the best cleans ever. The only downfall is that when you turn it up loud, the gain channel can fall apart and become blatty.
It's hard to beat JJ EL-84's. Start there, and if you want to spend a little more, buy some high quality 12AX7's, like GT12AX7C's, Tungsols, Sovtek LPS, or anything good.

Certain amps seem to just sound like themselves, no matter what tubes are in there. Other designs seem to take to swaps radically. Give it a try, but don't submit to garment-rending if you only hear a slight difference, even with top notch bottle.

How long has it been since you changed the tubes;and how loud do you run it, and how often do you play it loud?

+1, I very much dislike the sound of PV speakers!
JJ's are a good place to start....and swapping out the stock Peavey speakers (assuming they ARE Peavey speakers) would be a world of difference :bigok:

I tend to run it pretty loud most of the time. I usually play for about an hour to two hours on about 4 out of 12. This amp is really loud though. I believe I have Sovteks in it for the 12AX7's. I dont know about changing my speakers though.
