Will the 59/custom hybrid work in this?

I play a heavier style of rock (Like this kind of sound:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQe_U-8OUAI). currently I have the C8 in the bridge of my current Viper and I love it, but I am getting a new awesome guitar and I want to walk the world of Medium output pickups cause Peter Diezel (I play a Diezel VH4) says his amps work best with medium to low output pickups and I have yet to try this completely for myself. The guitar comes with a JB in the bridge and I will give it a shot for a little, but I didn't like this pick up much in the past.

Specs of new guitar: (picture included :naughty:)

FINGERBOARD: Rosewood , 24frets
INLAY: Dot, Cross at 12fret
SCALE: 648mm (Long) (25.5 inch)
NUT: Bone
JOINT: Set-neck
BRIDGE: Tune-matic / Tailpiece
PICKUPS: (Front) Duncan SH-1n
(Rear) Duncan SH-4
CONTROL: Master Volume , Master Tone
Mini Toggle PU Selector
COLOR: Black w/Japanse Zombie Heroez

Oh, I should mention, I don't have the largest funds for experimenting.... :(

Re: Will the 59/custom hybrid work in this?

I have a pg/custom hybrid pu in a LP guitar and I can do stuff like Tool and heavier with ease.

you've got a pearly custom hybrid too? cool! I really like mine! :D a bit fatter than the 59/custom, but still the same characteristics.

beyond that, the hybrid can do virtually everything. I love the pickup :) it works. in all sorts guitars.

I found that the 59/Custom Hybrid sounds amazing for heavier rock and less extreme metal.

I did a Screamin Demon/Custom hybrid with a UOA5 mag that is what I would call..................huummmmmmm..............................AWESOME!!!

I still think the C/59n is also amazing (best with a UOA5 as well), but I like the Demon/Custom a bit better. It has some more mids in it but still has a chimy top end and solid bass. Expanded EQ that gives it an airy, super hi-fi quality.

I can imagine it could work in any guitar with any tuning... as long as YOU can get good sounds out of it.

Re: Will the 59/custom hybrid work in this?

It's a very versatile pup and it has worked in every guitar I've had it in (LP, SG, Wilshire, Schecter C1, Strat). I'm sure you won't have any problem at all loving that pup in your guitar.

I have always wondered about the combo mahogony back+ ash top, you know compared to the usual maple top.

congrats!

which coil is which? and does it make much of a difference?

If it's too mushy, you can always stick a ceramic in there to make it sound tighter. Those guys use ceramic pups anyway.

I'd be interested in picking up a C/59 with UOA5 for some Led Zepp IV and Presence.

The Sh-4 works very well in this guitar haha. Must be the ash top/ maple neck that add something (as compared to my other all mahogany viper that the Sh-4 sucked in), but I still want to try the hybrid... though, money is always tight and I can't afford to take a chance and hope for the best.
Will the 59/C Hybrid stay pretty "tight" (I have been using a C8 in my other viper and the VH4 is a pretty tight amp) cause I don't really enjoy a flubby/saggy bottom. I like my low palm mutes tight and clear ;) I just want to try a medium output pickup cause that is what Peter Diezel (the designer of my amp) recommends for the VH4.

Re: Will the 59/custom hybrid work in this?

Why not swap the A5 in the JB for an A2 and soften the attack a little if the JB in general is doing the trick for you....

I should have worded that a little better haha. It is not really doing the trick for me, but it doesn't sound bad at all. Which surprises me haha.

I feel the 59/C hybrid will offer me clarity (that is hard for me to get from the JB IMO) and I have never really played with lower output pickups. I want to give it whirl and just not waste my money (which seems improbable if I get the 59/C, but ya never know)

Re: Will the 59/custom hybrid work in this?

Have you tried ceramic in the hybrid? Bach2Rock advises against it.

I think it is too bright and aggressive.
A5 or A2 is what works best...

Which is exactly what's needed for down tuned metal. Normally, thick and dark sounds muddy for Drop C. So if A5 is not doing the job, ceramic will make it tighter.

Re: Will the 59/custom hybrid work in this?

Sell the JB to fund a 59/C hybrid.

Or make a JB/59 hybrid with the JB you have.
