Winding My Own Pickups...

Hey guys,

I'm going to be winding my own strat style single coils for the Jaguar I'm building and was looking for some info as to how to shoot for a certain sound from the pickup. In other words, I don't know how to wind it to get (insert pickup model here) sound and was hoping a few guys here might know a thing or two. I've gotten the single coil pickup kits from Stewmac and have access to one of their pickup winders but as I said I'd rather know what sounds I can coax out of the pickups based on how I wind them. FYI the magnets are staggered Alnico V's. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Winding My Own Pickups...

a lot is trial and error. eventually you make corellations between patterns and tensions and tone.

as far as getting the sound you want, you need to start with the right wire and magnets and just kinda go for it. chances are you wont nail it but if you wind a good coil it will probably sound pretty good.

what tone are you trying to get

I'd say something along the lines of an SSL-1...nothing overwound or anything just vintage Fender single coil sounds.
