Winged C tubes

i love everyone

New member
so i ordered a pair new JJ 6L6GC's for my bassman last week, but when the order came in it turned out they shipped me a pair of Winged C 6L6GC's. does anybody have experience with these tubes, or with =C= tubes in general? are they any good? i rarely see them talked about here, so i was worried that they might be kinda crappy and i should hold out for the JJ's instead of putting these in. advice?

Re: Winged C tubes

lol, their loss. The winged c tubes are one of the most highly esteemed 6L6 tubes there are. Im jealous. Do a forum search and Im sure you will find more about them.

Re: Winged C tubes

Those are IMO the greatest current production 6L6 tubes you can get! Their loss is right!!! JJ's are nothing to write home about IMO but the winged C stuff is great!

Re: Winged C tubes

i've got em in my '66 bassman and love em!! All i had to compare to was some Sovtek 5881WXT's though.

those are grosss tubes. The sovteks that is. The same ones came in my YCV40T and although Sovtek and other claim them to be Sovtek's best 6L6 variant, their 6L6GC tubes are much better.

Re: Winged C tubes

I ordered 2 tubes last week for my Engl Screamer.

The JJ 6L6 sound so dark and when I use pedals, it sounds boomy and too middy..hope the =C= will help.

Re: Winged C tubes

=C= is what used to be known as Svetlana. They lost the ablity to user that name when Sovtek bought the name out a few years ago. =C= hands down makes the best current production power tubes on the market. You lucked out on your purchase. Congrats, and enjoy!

Re: Winged C tubes

Ya'll have to remember that Sovtek is only the brand name used by New Sensor...that said, some amps will sound better with the Sovteks in there, as that is what the amp was designed around. Not that other tubes might not sound better, but once in a while an amp will come to life when the Sovteks go back in.
Enjoy those Winged C tubes, anyawy. They're one of the only production tubes made today that can handle full power in a Music Man amp...700+dc to the plates in some models.

And, IMO, marketing is the main reason that people think so highly of JJ...back in the day when you could get a quartet of RCAs for $30, they'd be regarded as crappy Czech tubes...so-so at best. And for what it's worth, I had one die on me after 4 hours.

In general, I'm a big fan of JJ's, especially EL-34,E-34L, and EL-84.

For 6L6's, I'd always opt for =C= Svets. They sound great, and the internal bracing is more solid than the JJ's, which means there's less chance of a rattling sound when the amp is turned up. I still like the JJ's, but luckily they sent you some even better ones, as others have said.

Re: Winged C tubes

Btw something like this happened to me also. Instead of JJs I got =C=...it's over a year ago..good ol' times haha

Re: Winged C tubes

Winged C's are "it" as far as I'm concerned with modern day production power amp tubes. They are my "go to" EL-34s and 6l6s. I do like JJ EL-84s, but for EL-34s and 6l6s - it's no contest to me - I'm all about the Winged C Svetlanas.
