Wire Gauge For Strat SSS Pickguard set-up

Hello,

I did a search before posting, but didn't really see what I was looking for.

What guage wire is best for wiring a pick guard concerning the potentiometers and switch? I'm "gutting" a used/loaded Strat pick guard and putting it on a Korean made veneer Kramer and starting from scratch.

Any help is appreciated.

Usually 22 or 24 gauge stranded wire is fine for cavity wiring.

You could also go the vintage route and use cloth-covered "push-back" wire.

...now I have another question...what's the diff between stranded and push back wiring? I have the basic jist between the two, but is one easier to work with in your opinion?

I believe pushback wire IS stranded wire, that has already been tinned with solder and then covered with the cloth insulation.

I find it much easier to work with
a) because it's already tinned which makes soldering easier,
b) because the insulation doesn't melt, so you can get nice tight solder joints with the insulation going all the way to the joint.
c) when you bend it to a particular shape so that your wiring cavity is neat, it holds that shape - something I find normal plastic-insulated wire doesn't really do too well
