i know absolutely nothing about wireless cables. what are some trusted brands? what are better than what? pros and cons? i imagine the tone isnt as rich as conventional cables. any insight would be helpful.

Re: wireless systems?

how big of stages are you playing?

is stage diving / crowd surfing a big part of your act?

i always think it looks ******y when a dude has a wireless unit but he just stands in place for the whole set...or he just wanders around the stage because he can.

throwing your guitar around? coming in with a bad-ass riff mid-song from the crowd? flying around the stadium on not-quite-invisible wires? you need a wireless unit.

everybody else? make a list of things you can spend $300 on and spend it on that.

Re: wireless systems?

I'm not generally a huge fan of their products but IMO Line 6 makes the best bang-for-buck wireless out there. There's cheaper stuff out there but I wouldn't trust it outside of goofing around at home. The cheaper stuff also will have a greater effect on your sound.

Re: wireless systems?

I have a Sennheiser Freeport and I use it all the time - even at home practicing. It frees me up to wander around, sounds good, has a good range and keeps a nice string signal going to my gear.

Re: wireless systems?

I've been using a Sennheiser G2 for about 4 years now without a problem. In fact we have 4 of these units in the band and they have all performed flawlessly, and as for sound quality I cannot tell any difference in a band setting.

Come on, tell us how you really feel.

Re: wireless systems?

Just posted this in the other wireless thread going on.

The best wireless I've used is the Line6 X95 system. Their newer models are really nice too. My bandmate has one of the dual antenna models (can't remember exactly which one) that is a step or two up from mine. Never a problem (other than having to replace the battery). Sounds as good as a good cable to me.

Re: wireless systems?

I've got the line6 g30. great on batteries pedal board friendly great quality signal... but i do get intermittent brief drop outs for very short periods.. most are only noticed by me. I have 2 body packs, one for each of my two stage guitars and both do the same thing. some nights not a single drop out but others 1 or 2. have not had any train wrecks with it yet. but if you go line 6.. you might want to go for the g50 or better.

Re: wireless systems?

Great. Now you've renewed my GAS for a L6 wireless unit.

I also have a G30 and have absolutely ZERO problems (just get a different cable) out of it...it's without a doubt the BEST THING i've ever bought for my rig!

Re: wireless systems?

Line6 as far as i know makes the only digital wireless systems. the Relay series are quite well reputed.

Audio Technica, Sennheiser and Shure all make quality non-digital wireless systems as well, though if you're gonna go with one of them, make sure you get a UHF diversity system instead of a cheaper VHF one.

I got one of these cheap before Line6 bought them out. It has and continues to work brilliantly. I notice slightly better tone than the cheap cables I was using before. I also never have to unwind the wireless unit. For some reason, every time I would practice with a cable, it would end up horribly wound up for no good reason at all.

i'm sold! i never imagined flying around and playing guitar or doing stage dives would be possible with my current 20'. now the only issue is the stadium....think i could fly around on not-quite-invisible cables in the local bar?

seriously though, sounds like wireless systems are much more reliable than i had been lead to believe. i'll have to pick one up soon!

I have one of the X2 systems, before line 6 bought them out and it works great. I just replaced the original cable with a higher quality one and it made a huge difference. Plus it has ends that let you fit it instead of just molded tips.

Re: wireless systems?

I've used an Audio Technica 1400 series system for the last 10 or so years, with no complaints. Personally, the smaller the stage is, the more I prefer a wireless system, because there are fewer cords to trip over.
