Wireless units: line6 G30 vs G50

Hi all,

Due to the ways things have been going with my band, I am looking into wireless systems.

First of all, I am also looking into other brands other than line6 as well, however the relay series that they do does seem to be widely liked.

Looking into the G30 and G50 series both on paper appear to be able to do the job, almost equally as well (not that you would expect line6 to talk up any potential downsides to their products). That said I have done some searching on the forum and have read the G30 may sometimes suffer from drops in signal, but then many others saying they work perfectly.

Main question - what are the main benefits of going for a G50 over a G30? Ultimately I want something good solid reliable for regular gigging so I don't mind spending extra, if it is ultimately worthwhile.

Thanks in advance,

I had one of their early systems, I forget which model, and I hope they fixed the issues, but for what it's worth, theirs was the only system I ever experienced drop outs with, and battery life was basically non-existent. I've reverted back to my trusty old Samson VHF-TD systems (I have 3 of them) and am nothing but pleased with the performance. 12 to 15 hours with an alkaline 9v compared to 3 to 4 with the Line 6. I've switched to rechargeable lithium ion and now get longer runs on each before recharging.

The g30 has plastic body or something while the g50 is metal, something along those lines is what i remember about them.

Yeah the 50 has more channels and yes it appears to have a more robust construction. I guess it really depends on how potentially flimsy the 30 is. Reviews on them seem to be good though.

Pinto79 - I will look into it but thus far it seems the newer ones maybe better than previous attempts. Could be wrong though! Beyond Line 6 I get the impression it is otherwise all about Samson, Shure and Sennheiser.

This. I love my G50 but since the G30's price dropped to $199, it's a pretty compelling deal.

Yep, both the 50 and 30 have had price drops, really seems to be a question of how flimsy the 30 actually is, and how many potential problems can be avoided by a bit of common sense. I would go for the 50 except the price hike involved does make me wonder whether the other will do the job. Gotta check them out in person really! Any first hand thoughts on these is welcome though.

I have the G50 and its great. I went for this one as I'm not exactly a worldwide arena touring guitarist but do tour nationally and gig often. The G30 seemed too cheap too me, as mentioned above, the clipper thing on the transmitter is plastic? And the range is only 100ft, whereas the G50 is 200ft, not that I'll need that but its nice for reassurance. Also you get 12 channels. Can't remember how many the G30 has.

Had mine for over a year now and never ever had a single technical fault with it, i.e. dropouts. The transmitter doesn't clip on your guitar strap very well but some gaffer tape fixes that. Also last year when playing a crazy show someone kicked an antenna off my receiver but it still worked and I've since got a replacement.

So yeah, if you can get the G50, its very road worthy and reliable, plus its digital so not interference from radios or anything like that, you can use it anywhere.
