Wiring a GFS Superstrat using Duncan Lil 59's

I recently purchased a superstar kit from GFS that included 3 500K pots, three ON-OFF-ON mini switches.

Each mini switch has three positions- You wire up your strat pickups so that each pickup is independently assignable as "IN PHASE", "OUT OF PHASE" and "OFF". This allows you to get all of the standard strat sounds, plus all of the fun in Phase sounds, plus the ability to kick any pickup out-of-phase with the other pickups. The result is a guitar with 13 individual sounds-

1) Bridge Pickup In Phase
2) Middle Pickup In Phase
3) Neck Pickup In Phase
4) Bridge/Middle Pickups In Phase
5) Middle/Neck Pickups In Phase
6) Bridge/Neck Pickups In Phase
7) All Three Pickups In Phase
8) Bridge/Middle Pickups Out Of Phase
9) Middle/Neck Pickups Out Of Phase
10) Bridge/Neck Pickups Out Of Phase
11) Neck/Middle Pickups In Phase, Bridge Out Of Phase
12) Bridge/Middle Pickups In Phase, Neck Out Of Phase
13) Bridge/Neck Pickups In Phase, Middle Out Of Phase
In addition to that- we give you THREE MORE wiring setups in our famous- fully illustrated- easy to follow wiring instructions- You get the following Wiring Schemes-

Sound Super strat
Infinite Sound Tri-Volume Super strat
Humbucker/Single 17 Sound Super-Duper strat
Infinite Sound Tri-Volume Humbucker/Single Coil Super strat

My problem is that as much information as I have read regarding wiring diagrams and color codes, none of them seem to clearly tell me how to wire my SD LiL 59's with the switches. I have attached the wiring diagram they included. I am most interested in the traditional setup or top version, but I am confused as to where the white wire goes and is the black on the 59's what they show as green? A bit confusing to say the least. I will ask the folks at GFS these questions as well, but I believe the Duncan form is probably going to be the best place. Can anyone help me with this?

Hopefully the wiring diagram will upload here

I see no attachment.

Ah, there it is. Slow connection

However, for Duncan pickups phase switching, this here's what it looks like:

http://www.seymourduncan.com/suppor...ics.php?schematic=series_spl_parallel-w-phase

Basically all you're doing is setting it up so the black and green wires get reversed - one to hot, one to ground.

Only part to note about that diagram is that the bare wire should go to ground at all times, so to the back of the pot.

With phase inversion, only one pickup in a pairing needs to be reversed, otherwise you get no effect (two pickups can only either be in phase or out of phase with each other, and reversing the phase of both puts them in phase with each other, even if they are both set to out of phase).

Though I do seem to recall older SD diagrams (in the pickup box) having a spot in there about wiring a pickup to be phased with itself.

At any rate, unless they're talking about phased with themselves, their 13 sounds claim is a bit sketchy at best.

Thank you, all I really want to do is wire it so I can split the coils. On the GFS diagram they don't address the lil 59 white wire. Additionally I'm not sure if the color of the wires they note would be the same as for the lil 59. Since they do not indicate the white or black wire I am in a quandary. I agree that the claim to 13 sounds is a bit sketchy,in reality they are claiming 16 sounds with the coil tap and the other two noted. Also I am open to suggestions, what about having three volume controls as noted on the bottom diagram or should I stick with the traditional with a volume and two tones?

On a Duncan Humbucker- Black is normally the "HB+", the White and Red connected together for "normal" series operation, and Green (and bare) to ground

For splitting with the toggle switch the "split position" on the switch will connect the Red and White wires to be the "hot" effectively only using one coil

The White and Red wires connected together on a Duncan Humbucker seem to correspond with the red line labelled "Coil Tap" on the GFS diagram

Re: Wiring a GFS Superstrat using Duncan Lil 59's

I Got the GFS superstrat kit wired and functioning properly. Yes the BLACK wire on the lil 59's were the hum bucker or yellow wire as shown on the GFS diagram. The RED and WHITE wire i soldered together and they were the RED wire for the purposes of the GFS wiring diagram. Forgetting about all the in phase and out of phase stuff I primarily wanted to coil tap the mini humbuckers and be able3 to turn each pickup on or off. It works and works very well. As a side note, I tried both wiring diagrams and decided on individual volume controls for each pickup and no tone pot, after all with that many tonal variations already a tone pot was not needed in my opinion. I kinda like not having the 3 way stick there to knock into the treble positions when I get to playing hard. I typically use the 4 and sometimes 3 position on a standard 3 way so the rest of them were only a nuisance to me. This forum was excellent helping me figure it out.

Re: Wiring a GFS Superstrat using Duncan Lil 59's

I have been playing with my new Superstrat switching for several days now. More importantly I have been jamming with these amazing Seymour-Duncan Lil 59's. They are absolutely great! The switching really does give me lots of tonal options. Wiring each PUP with its own volume allows me to use the volumes as a blender, the switches allow me to individually turn the humbucker ON - middle position is PUP OFF - Down position is coil split (single coil only). There is no need for tone control at all. I have been running them all wide open, the 500k pots make a world of difference as well BTW. Here's a couple of pictures of the set upIMG_3095.jpgIMG_3102.jpg

Please tell me how you did this. I've been wiring and rewiring for the past 4 days trying different configurations. I'm trying the same way you did it. Pleeeaaaaseeee!
