Wiring a Tele - want no tone on neck PU

I'm experimenting with the pickups and wiring on my Tele.

'Lil 59 bridge PU
stock single coil neck PU

I want to wire it 5 way.

So far no problem.

However,.. I want to have the tone control only work on the bridge PU.
I want the neck PU to always be the equivalent of tone on 10/full bright tone.

Is this possible?

The Lil 59 is a lot brighter than the stock PU
I'd like to be able to roll it off a little but keep the neck pick up full bright.
I think this will make the pickups work together better, especially when switching back and forth.

links/advice?

Thanks!

I did it to my tele. Basically all you have to do is take off the wire on the switch from the "always on" contact, to the bridge only position/contact. That should do it, hopefully that helps!

Hm, sounds like my kind of Tele - the neck really doesn't need a tone knob.

Not sure about the 5-way but here's how you do it on a 3-way. Disconnect the wire where the red blob is .... then connect where the red line is. It's easy to test ... return to original if you don't like.

Here is the 5-way wiring chart I found
(couldn't find a 5-way switch for tele on the Seymour Duncan site)

Re: Wiring a Tele - want no tone on neck PU

Here is a "modified" version of the above.

I cut the wire between the volume pot and the tone pot (see the red x)

Then I run a wire from the tone pot and connect ot to the 2 leads from the lil 59.

Does this at least look like a good place to start?

(btw, thanks for the helpful replies. A lot of forums dump on posters with low/no post counts. Nothing but help here. Thanks!)

Re: Wiring a Tele - want no tone on neck PU

I honestly don't know if that will work ... but there are guys here that will know. Keep in mind that in the 3-way version the middle setting is affected by the tone knob. So I think its safe to say that ANY switch setting involving the bridge pickup (linked to the tone pot) will be affected by the tone pot.

Wait around for a bit and someone more technical than I will pop up and answer your question. Lot of knowledge at this forum regarding this sort of thing.

Good luck & welcome to the forum.
