Wiring Advise

Hi Everyone,

I have an Ibanez RG7620 (Japan) and I need to replace the old pups with the Nazgul/Sentient set. The guitar needs a new switch as well. Old one is scratchy.

Can I get the same pup configuration if I use the selector below?
If yes, can you help me figure out how to wire this? I believe Ibanez's stock switch is wired differently.

Ibanez stock wiring:

1. Neck humbucker in series
2. Neck humbucker in parallel
3. Both humbuckers in parallel
4. Inner coils in parallel
5. Bridge humbucker in series

The old selector looks like this (as per DiMarzio it's a 5 way sc/2502n):

Thanks in advance.

Re: Wiring Advise

Deoxit or other contact cleaner will fix the scratchiness.

Let us know if you need any help with wiring. You will need to flip a magnet for all positions to be hum-cancelling.

Thank you. It has a scratchy sound when you try to move it. I'll try your advice to use a contact cleaner.
What do you mean flip a magnet? Sorry, noob question. I am not that good as far as wiring is concerned. :)

He means that you'll need to pull the magnet out of one of the pickups and flip it 180 degrees before putting it back in. That'll cause both pickups to be magnetically out of phase with each other so that the inner and outer coils will hum cancel when used together. If you're not comfortable doing so, have your dealer order one of your pickups reverse polarity as a shop floor custom.

Thanks for clearing that up Dystrust. I already have the pups and I am not comfortable as of the meantime. Maybe in the future. :)
What I need right now is to know whether my new switch can work the same as the old one.

Re: Wiring Advise

We need the specifics of the new switch. It seems that all that's been provided is a picture.

If it's just a standard two pole five-way, then it won't be able to give you the same switching options.

Apologies but that is all I have. I can send a different angle of the switch though.
Your next sentence would make sense. I guess I'll have to switch to a 3-way and use coil split in the tone pot.

Thank you everyone for your help. I really appreciate it. I may ask again when I get issues with the 3 way coil split config. :18:

Re: Wiring Advise

The Ibanez switch also puts the neck in parallel. You'll need two dedicated poles just to do that, which is all a standard push/pull has.

Get a Fender 5-Way Super Switch.

Re: Wiring Advise

What I am thinking is the same wiring as the PRS SE Mark Holcomb; 3-way switch and a push-pull tone.
I just have to figure out what I need for the middle position.
