wiring asthetics

I've noticed in the control cavity of my Schecter that the wires are bundled with a Zip-Strip......is this a factory thing or someone's modification? All the wires are bundled on top of the control pots and it makes me think about some wire-shortening when I do the vol/tone mod to vol/vol.

Personally, I like to have just enough excess to pull the pots out and work on them on the (covered) back of the guitar rather than soldering within the cavity, but this is about 1.5" too long on every wire.:eyecrazy:

Re: wiring asthetics

I can't speak for Schecter, but I've seen zip-strips used in Strats (straight from the factory).

I'm not sure how much a little wire slack actually affects tone though. I think it might be one of those things that makes a difference in theory, but that no one can claim to hear first hand. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me...I've never actually tested this.

When I do my own wiring, I only use zip-strips on the pickup wires. I don't want to cut them to length in case I swap them into another guitar.

Re: wiring asthetics

When I bought my Schecter C-1, the wiring was done the same way. To me it looked very clean and there was no apparent or actual shortening problems. However, I switched out the Duncan Designed active pickups, switched out ALL of the electronics, except the switch as it looked very solid to me solid, and I am very pleased with the results I got. The only thing that I need to change is the bridge pickup. I need more power...

It is always pleasing when you modify the guitar yourself. At least you know what is being done to it. :)
