Well, the tremolo claw can be grounded to control cavity shielding, but I have thought about setting up two completely different pickguard assemblies for a strat. The different pickups (like mini-hmbucker vs single coil at the bridge) dictates the use of different switches etc etc etc.
I have thought it would be convenient these two completed assemblies could be switched out with ease using quick connects to the input jack only.
?????
Pickguard screw holes aside, there's also wear and tear on quick connects like standard spade male/female connections, but yes, an entire assembly could be removed from a strat with a simple connection. If you were really good you'd use a 1/8" plug to swap the electrical assembly in and out.
The hardest part of the entire operation would be getting the pick guard out without destroying a set of strings! What a PITA that is.
Yes it can. I think it's been considered a million times (no offense). I often come back to this idea. The wiring part is easy. Where it breaks down for me is the eventual wear and tear on the pickguard screw holes in the body. There are solutions to that too, but none that are really appealing on anything but a cheap instrument:
1) Fix pickguard holes as they strip
2) Install sleeves in the pickguard screw holes with internal threads and use machine screws in place of wood screws
I still have one other idea I come back to every now and then, but so far, I haven't found the silver bullet
