Wiring Explanation for On/Off/On Switch

Re: Wiring Explanation for On/Off/On Switch

The eight contact switch links contacts in groups of four.

In the first on position, it links the four contacts nearest the end to which the switch has been pushed.

In the middle position, the four central contacts are linked. In a Fender Mustang/Jag-Stang circuit the switch acts as off because the signal from the pickup fails to reach an output connection.

In the second on position, the switch is linking the group of four contacts at the other end of the switch. In the case of the Fender Mustang/Jag-Stang circuit, the output cables from the switch are reversed, thereby achieving the phase inversion effect.

This Mustang schematic should help. Ironically, I had to source this diagram from another website.
