Hi all, got a set of fat 50s installed in my strat. Neck pickup broke. About to install an SSL-1 to replace the neck. How do the wires go to not screw with the RWRP Fat 50s middle?

just want to confirm because I always manage to get this wrong haha

When fitting a SSL-1 in place of a Fender pickup, you will need to connect the white and black leads in reverse connection.

Both SSL-1 and Fat 50s neck have South magnetic polarity, so I don’t expect any issue with hum-cancelling in the notch position.

Speaking of reversing leads. I have an SSL1 in the neck of one of my Silvertone S-styles that needs the leads reversed. Position 4 is out of phase and sounds terrible lol. I might do that in a few minutes now that I'm thinking about it.

let us know how ya like the ssl1 once ya get it in there. id be interested in a comparison between the old and new pups in the same guitar

Hi! thanks for the reply. Could you specify in that case, whether the black or the white lead on the SSL goes to ground? Is it the same as Fender (black to ground)?

If you also swap the 50ies middle with the 50ies bridge, you can get a humfree positions again.

Hi again all!

So I finally got round to making the change and sitting on the modification for a while. Gotta say the SSL-1 is marvelous! Complements the fat 50s middle really well but offers a more traditional start sound in the neck with glassy highs and tight low-end with a low enough mid-range to not contrast the fat 50s.
