Wiring genius needed! Is this possible? Coil Splitting.

Hello,

I have a 2011 Les Paul Standard.

I have a 59/Custom Hybrid and ordered a 59/Jazz from the custom shop.

What I am attempting to do is this...

Split the 59/Custom

Split the 59/Jazz

Also while split, I'd like to run the 59/59 combined as a humbucker(ish).

Also while split, I'd like to run Custom/Jazz.

I admit I'm a bit of a newbie here... and this may not be possible?

Please guide me though...

Thanks!!!!

What kinda of selector switch are you using 5-way blade or 3 way toggle, and do you want to be able to use the coil split individually (ie: neck 59 by itself ect...)

This really isn't that difficult. You're simply talking about doing the "Slutbucker". The trick, is doing both. Let me chew on this for a moment. I think it's actually simple. :33:

We're overlooking a very simple solution for this, Triple Shots.

3 way switch.

Yes, id like to use the 59 and jazz separately as well... in a perfect world situation.

Tripple shots? huh?

The easy way is you need a DPDT on-off-on switch, which has 6 lugs. Treat each row of 3 lugs as a separate side of the switch, one row of 3 lugs for each pickup. Wire white+red from one pickup to the center lug on one side of the switch, wire red+white of the other pickup to the center lug of the other side of the switch.

The remaining empty lugs on one end of the switch will go to hot, and lugs on the other end of the switch will go to ground (the ground lugs can all be bridged together to ground, but I believe the hots will need to stay separate and tap into the hot tabs/lugs for each pickup on your 3-way selector switch).

In the center position (off) both pickups will be humbuckers. When the DPDT is switch to the hot side, you'll get the slug coils and when the switch is to ground you'll get the screw coils.

Artie has a trick to flip the phase on one of the pickups and make a humbucker out of the split coils. Search the forum for "slutbucker" and you'll find it.

(Someone chime in and check me if I'm wrong - I'm doing this in my head without drawing at the moment.)

Triple Shots seem interesting...However Id be paranoid of switching pickup mid way through playing, especially palm muting.

Anyone have issues with that?

If they use the same tiny switches that you see on things like toys, then it shouldn't be a problem. Those are hard to hit intentionally. But if you're used to how it works, you'll have no problem turning them on/off at will, and you'll never accidentally hit it.

They're not obvious switches in the same way that the three way on a Les Paul is. Furthermore, they slide side to side, rather than up and down like a three way toggle, so the chances of you accidentally hitting them are next to none, unless you have an interesting way of hitting the strings.

I think I will try this!

My custom 59/Jazz should be here Friday!

Thanks Guys!
