I have a Epi. les paul that is very noisy. I you grab the low E string and mute all the rest and just slowly move the string the guitar hisses through the amp. This same hiss is present when you play as an under tone.

I am going to change all the pots, the switch, and do a complete rewire.

My question is where is the grounding point on this guitar. Also has anyone else experienced these symptoms with a guitar, and if so what was the fix for you.

Hmmm, It might be as simple as another wire hitting something else. Maybe hot to ground, ect. It could be your pots. Try this test. Plug in and turn on the amp. Now turn the volume knob back and forth and such. Do the same with the tone knob. The pots should move a little. Now, if you hear a scratch as your turning then your pot is scratched. This can be fixed by cleaning the pot with DW40, I believe, but check first. After using DW40 to clean it, let it dry for a minute or so, then turn it. Try that. If that doesn't work, then you might have to replace your pots. Let me know if it works.

You could also be missing a ground link as well.

well the pots are not "scratchy" when I turn them. The problem seems to be a hiss thru the amp when I play. At first I was leaning toward the amp, a Vox AD50VT, which seem to have a few issues. But the guy at the store plugged in one of their guitars and played it and there was no hiss. My cables are top shelf Monster Cable and Planet Waves, so I do not think that is it.
