Due to scratchy pots, I'm going to end up rewiring a les paul. I was wondering what the difference betwewen 50s wiring and new les paul standard wiring is (tonaly and schematicaly), and also, what I should do with odd values of pots. I bought 4 pots, but their values are 435, 470, 520 and 550, not exactly what I would call 500k. Anu suggestions, should I get new pots again (I haven't installed them yet, or I wouldn't be here)?

Re: Wiring Help please

basically the difference between the 50s and modern wiring is where the hot wire from the pup and the wire to the switch go. some say the 50s wiring keeps more highend when you turn the volume down

if it were me id use
550 for the neck volume
520 for bridge volume
470 for neck tone
435 for bridge tone

Whoever sold you those pots didn't match them up too well. +50 to -70? geez.

Re: Wiring Help please

Thanks, I think I'll try 50s wiring, after getting some new pots. Again.
