wiring help request/question

I have a grounding (assuming it is grounding, when i touch any component the hum stops) problem that I am having difficulty nailing down.

I followed the 2 hb 1 vol/push pull 3 way (split both coils) toggle diagram on this site.

My question is if that diagram has any flaws in it?

I am stuck atm in figuring out what the ground issue could be.

not my first complete rewire, I have done about 5 so far.

Thanks!

Re: wiring help request/question

The Duncan diagram looks fine. On my 5th (or around there) rewire, I accidentally wired the jack backwards and it gave baffling (to me) symptoms at that time. I figured it out eventually, but it took about 30 minutes. I'm not saying that this could be your issue, but sometimes odd things happen. What would help the most is if you could put a picture of your wiring up. Then people here would for sure be able to tell you know what's going on. Also make sure that the pickups, bridge wire, and switch are grounded to that volume pot.Good luck!

inner sleeve of jack to ground. i will post pic later tonight. 3rd lug is grounded switch/pot.

i have a number of grounds soldered to star washer attached to cavity, including the pups green/bare. yes, that is ground to the pot also, but it shouldnt matter if i directly ground the pups to the pot/switch or to the star washer that is also wired to the pot/switch. correct? i guess ill check continuity on all grounds one last time before i post pic.

Re: wiring help request/question

It could also be a cold joint on the volume pot or jack. Those are the worst IME because everything is actually wired perfectly.

Re: wiring help request/question

hmm. Anything is possible but I heated up the jack tips nice so the solder flowed onto the wire and tip. maybe my pic tonight will reveal my screwup. Thanks for your help, appreciate it!

Re: wiring help request/question

What is the ratio of hum vs signal? Generally, if when you touch the strings or metal and it stops, that is the way it is supposed to work.

Re: wiring help request/question

so i tested all grounds and all made it to output jack sleeve (i tested in barrel where jack goes, not where i soldered). i removed the killswitch i installed and now it's back to "normal". the killswitch is really damn loud. im going to reinstall it and not try it until the guts are in the cavity and the cover is on and see if it is tolerable. it is a tesi poco killswitch.

update- turns out i must have fried/damaged the push pull pot first go around. i know they are touchy and easy to fry, but apparently i wasnt careful enough. so second time around with another identical pot and no problems. no feedback and no issues and the killswitch i tried for first time works fine.

thanks for the help.
