Hi I've got this batwing SG that I modded with a third pickup route in the middle. I like this arrangement because, when I blend in the third pickup, I get some stratty tones that are very unusual on a Gibson.
I'm planning on putting three Phat Cats. If I had my way, I'd have a 5-way blade switch, but I can't seem to make it work on an SG. Push-pulls are out of the question (too-thin body) and rotary switches could work, but I don't think they would be any easy or comfortable to use live. So I'm stuck with regular knobs and a 3-way switch.
So far I've wired it with three 'buckers I had lying around following the Seymour Duncan wiring diagram (with a volume for each pickup to blend in the middle one in any position). I got rid of the master tone though, since I never use it.
These schematics have the hot leads from the pickups on the middle lugs of the volume pots. Everything works as it should. Only issue is that the guitar keeps passing ground noise when the volumes are turned down, regular guitars don't do this.
I've read something that suggests that this is normal when the pickups are connected to the middle lugs. Is that so? Is there anyway to fix this? Is kind of a deal breaker to me.
Is there any other wiring I could use? What about the usual LP-SG Custom (with the middle position selecting bridge & middle out of phase)? Can't seem to find the schematic for that one.
Thanks!
