I have a Mexican deluxe strat wich i just bought a humbucker for. This guitar came with a button that activates the bridge pickup in positions 4 and 5 of the 5 way switch. I'm not to sure how to wire this for the humbucker.

This is a diagram of how the guitar is currently wired.

This is how i want the guitar to be wired except with the button to activate the bridge.

Could somebody tell me how this should be wired, and im kind of new to guitar wiring so try and make it simple, thanks.

Re: Wiring help

You are using the wrong diagram. You must search for the American Deluxe SSS one. That button you are talking about is the S-1 switch and, does also other things.

Anyway, a direct substitution is just to solder together red&white wires and wrap some isolant tape over.
Then, solder the green wire where the clear wire (usually white) of the current fender bridge pickup is wired.
Then, solder the black and bare wires to where the black wire of the current pickup is wired.

I'm sorry but i think you misunderstood what im trying to do. the first diagram from fender is the wiring diagram of my guitar (A deluxe mexican strat) I just put it there because i thought it might help. Anyway the second diagram is how i wanted to wire my guitar with my new humbucker. So basically i want a coil tap master tone and master volume along with that button that activates the bridge pickup in position 4 + 5 of the switch.

Re: Wiring help

The HB output conductor goes to the same terminal on the selector switch as the original bridge position single coil used to do. Everything else remains the same. Rock on!

Re: Wiring help

So, changes to the SD diagram, as shown here, are:

  1. Remove jumper from lower left lug to upper right lug of the 5-way.
  2. Move the pull/push switch side of volume pot to the tone pot, where you want to split.
  3. Solder lower left lug of 5-way to volume's left lug
  4. Jump together both upper lugs of 5-way.
  5. remove any wiring in the volume's pull/push switch, as show in this diagram.
  6. Jumper from lower right lug of the 5-way to the center left lug of the volume's pull/push.
  7. Jumper from lower left lug of the volume's pull/push to the left lug of the volume pot.
Thanks i think this will help me tons whenever i get my humbucker...
