wiring mystery

so ive been doin my own and other peoples pick up swaps for a long time now and have never been perplexed until now. I have a bunch of spare pups laying around and experiment frequently.....I put in a neck pickup im not familiar with along with a Gibson single conductor pickup in the bridge...now both pickups work fine individually...but when I put the switch in the middle position (both pickups on) I get a large volume drop and it sounds super thin....whats even stranger..if I turn one of the volumes DOWN..it gets louder....but stays the same volume no matter where the knob is at, until it reaches zero and turns off. the neck pup is labeled G&B pickup co.:disappoin

Re: wiring mystery

Sounds like the pups are out of phase. A diagram of your current wiring and some clear photos of your wiring job would be invaluable.

Re: wiring mystery

Definitely sounds like their out of phase with each other. Try reversing the wiring to the switch for just one of them. Shouldn't matter which one.

Re: wiring mystery

ill try and post a pic later as I am at work, but the pickup has a bare wire and a black wire I put to ground, there is a green and white wire that were already soldered together I have going to the switch on the tone knob for coil splitting and the red wire to the volume....like I said it functions perfectly by itself...and im assuming that's where the problem is stemming from as the bridge pup is only a single conductor ( wire to volume and braided sleeve to ground) hope this helps ,if not I can post a pic latr...and thanks...Its rad how friendly and willing to help the people on these forums are!! (wire colors are obviously not the same as SD)

Re: wiring mystery

Black as output, red to ground should do the trick.
