Wiring problem pick up selector (Import)

First question, and I'm throwing out a guess that Korean/China/Indie pups wiring may not be quite sympatico with the SD diagrams...?

I know in advance, cheap parts and ceramic pick-ups will behave differently than more quality parts.

Here's my problem :banghead:

When the p/u selector is in the N/M/B position, there is no buzz. When the position is B/M and M/N, there is a buzz. The selector is a 5-way import.

No voltmeter, so trial and error. Suggestions, besides a voltmeter and new parts :14: Is it just adjusting the tone pots? That worked, but still a slight hum. Is it possible to completely eliminate hum?

I have REALLY old home wiring too...could be a factor as well.

Any suggestions are helpful.

Re: Wiring problem pick up selector (Import)

I can't think of how that would be possible with all single coils. Are the pickups all single coils, or humbuckers or a mix of both? What guitar is this? Are the switch positions supposed to do other things besides just select pickups? (E.g. are there some humbuckers in the mix with coil splitting or phase reversing?)

Single coils only. The body is a Korean Kramer and the pickguard is from a used Squire strat.

I had a ridiculous buzz at first, then re-wired it last night before the post. After the re-wire, and a new .022 capacitor working fine, except that buzz in the positions I described.

I'll try my other amp tonight when I get home and see if might be the practie amp (Line 6 Spider).

Could just still be a matter of the switch going bad.
