Wiring Problem - Volume/Tone Controls Don't Work

Just installed two Humbuckers in my MIM Tele (APH-1/Lil'59). Wired up everything as per spec (see link below). Here is the problem... while I get output from my pups (neck/neck and bridge/bridge using a 3-way toggle) the tone and volume controls don't do a thing. Some slight variation in tone but nothing else. What have I done?! This is my first wiring project so I'm not too surprised that I screwed it up. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Some background:
Joined red and white wires.
Black wire from each pup to respective lug on 3-way switch.
Green to back of volume pot.

Without photos, it is difficult to be certain. Quick guess - you have soldered the output cable from the selector switch to the wrong lug of the volume pot, effectively, bypassing both it and the tone control.

EDIT: If you have installed new 500k pots to suit the 'buckers, it is possible that you failed to ground the volume pot's #3 lug correctly. Without this vital connection, all that the pots will do is load the pickups slightly.

Hopefully I've just done something silly like that. I'll take a look tonight. Will also take a photo in case that is not the problem. Thanks for your suggestion.
P.S. The pickups sound great. I was very pleased with myself since this was my first wiring job.... that is until I tried to adjust the volume and tone :)

I just bent the lug back to the pot and soldered it in place. Hopefully that is all I needed to do. Will take a photo tonight. Thanks again

Some brands of pot are finished in an anti-corrosion coating. It is necessary to scratch through this before soldering in order to guarantee a good connection.

Yup. That is the one thing I know I did right. The rest, well who knows :)

Thanks Funkfingers for your help. Looks like I did a poor soldering job connecting the lug to the back of the volume pot. Everything works great. Thanks again.
