Wiring question-HSS

Hi everyone,

Will soon buy a HSS Jackson DK2 Dinky, that will undergo severe modding.

I'm going to install a Full Shred trembucker in tge bridge, a Vintage Rails in the middle and a Cool Rails in the neck.

Now on to the magic: the guitar has a 5-way switch, a volume pot and a tone pot.

The volume pot would be a push/pull to have the CR wired in series/parallel. Easy.

Now I'd want a push/pull on the tone pot to wire the VR on/off, so that in the off position the 5-way would work like a 3-way: bridge/ bridge+neck in the middle switch position / neck.

Is this feasable?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Wiring question-HSS

for the VR can wire the push pull to the pickup and volume pot. Not a problem.

For the 5 way: it’s a normal/traditional 5 way?
Do the positions need to be 1,3,5 or could it be 3,4,5 or 1,2,3?

It would be easier for me 1, 3, 5. So far it has a traditional 5-way, maybe a superswitch or a Schaller Megaswitch may do what I want?

If you want a traditional three way blade why not get that [emoji4] ?

Using a pot or switch for the middle one is straightforward.

Re: Wiring question-HSS

I'm just trying to get two wiring schemes available on the same guitar.

Minding that the CR will be wired to a push/pull for series/parallel, here's what I'm thinking about:

-Wiring #1: Full Shred Bridge series (Position one on the switch) / Full Shred + Vintage Rails (Position 2) / Vintage Rails (Position 3) / Vintage Rails + Cool Rails (Position 4) / Cool Rails (Position 5)

-Wiring #2: Full Shred Bridge series (Position one on the switch) / Full Shred + Cool Rails (Position 3) / Cool Rails (Position 5)

Wiring #2 would have the VR off via a push / pull on the tone pot.

The main ideia would be to have the same guitar doing the HSS thing AND the HS thing. So, a 3-way swtich is not what I need for the aforementiond wirings...

Re: Wiring question-HSS

Get it now! I thought your preference of the 3 positions was comfort and simplicity.

It sounds like what you want is a 7 sound strat but the bridge being HB ( which doesn't matter) and just a tone pot.

Check these:
https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/the-seven-sound-stratocaster-1
https://guitarelectronics.com/strat-w-neck-bridge-neck-mid-bridge-options-7-sound/

This is a normal strat wiring with a master tone, in case it's not obvious: https://guitarelectronics.com/strat-w-single-master-tone-control/

It looks like you know how to wire the HB to the push pull to get series/parallel so the above plus that should do it for you.

Thanks for you input, Billie, but not quite what I intend on doing...

Sorry! You lost me there, I hope somebody else can pick it up! [emoji4]

I thought that the seven sound wiring covered the positions you wanted but I must be wrong :)

Re: Wiring question-HSS

The thing is, on the abovementioned Wiring #2, I want to remove the VR from the circuit, and to replace its original switch position to Bridge+Neck.

The most similar to this seems to be position one on the 7-sound mod. Will then the neck pickup still be available on position 5?

Sorry, I don't know how to replace the exact positions. Only how to get the sounds you were after in some position.

In the seven sound strat you would have bridge + neck.

Pasting here what I linked above:

In the top right you see the sounds you get in each position.

Ok, that should do it!

Still can do the neck CR series/parallel on one push/pull, and the "seven-way" on the other push/pull pot, right?
