Wiring Question

I wanted to see if anyone knows if it is possible to do this wiring scheme with a standard 5-way strat switch:

1 - Bridge
2 - Bridge and Neck
3 - Middle
4 - Middle and Neck
5- Neck

Any help would be much appreciated

Re: Wiring Question

that would be this one

Re: Wiring Question

correct me if am wrong, but isn't that just a standard strat 5-way diagram? that is not what i am asking

Re: Wiring Question

It may be possible, but you haven't listed what your control s are set up like. give me a detailed idea of what you want, and I will see what we can do.

Re: Wiring Question

i have three single coils, master volume, master tone. i would like to be able to get the bridge and neck pups together like a tele, but was wondering if it can be done using the existing 5-way without adding any additional switches. the bridge/middle position is not one i use often so i would sacrifice that for the bridge/neck. i thought i would see if there is any way to wire a 5-way switch to get these combos:
1 - Bridge
2 - Bridge and Neck
3 - Middle
4 - Middle and Neck
5 - Neck

The best solution is to use a normal 5-way wired normally together with a switch or push/pull pot that would add the bridge p'up to the circuit, so you can have both neck/bridge and all three p'ups on altogether.

IIRC, somewhere in the StewMac site should be the schematic for it, have a look:

what?
EDIT
oh bridge and neck
standard switch ?
no

Re: Wiring Question

get a push pull
wire it for " bridge always on "
then you can turn on the bridge with the switch in position 5
and get
bridge and neck
also in position 4 you would get
all pickups on

of course
positions 1 & 2 would not change

Re: Wiring Question

Now wait just a minute. Shouldn't he be able to get what he wants if he was to switch the wires from the bridge and middle? You know just put the wire from the bridge onto the switch contact for the middle and vice versa. He should get this combo then.
1 Middle Pickup
2 Middle & Bridge pickup
3 Bridge pickup
4 Bridge & Neck pickup
5 Neck Pickup

That should work shouldn't it?

its not as simple as moving a few wires around

he will need either

1- a 4 pole 5 way super switch
which would do exactly that
2- a push-pull or toggle
to get the bridge always on I mentioned in the other post
there is no other way to get the bridge and neck together with a standard 5 way switch

edit
1 Middle Pickup
2 Middle & Bridge pickup
3 Bridge pickup
4 Bridge & Neck pickup
5 Neck Pickup

that would just be confusing as heck to use

Re: Wiring Question

If you swap the middle and the neck wires you get:
1-Bridge
2-Bridge+neck
3-Neck
4-Neck+Middle
5-Middle

This would give you the options you wanted in a slightly different order. If you don't use the Middle pickup by itself much this is actually a pretty useful. You would also want to reverse the phase of the neck and the middle pickup so that positions 2 and 4 are still hum canceling. For that you would just need to connect the hot lead to ground and the ground lead to the switch.

still think it would be confusing
ok
it would work
but confusing
thats just all I'm gonna say:28:

Re: Wiring Question

Yes. Your suggested wiring is possible with a five-way lever selector switch, just not the standard eight contact type.

You need the twelve contact, five-position selector. The twelve terminals are discreet so you have to make the jumper connections on the switch yourself rather than having the switch "bridging" the terminals to create positions 2 and 4 for you.

The Allparts code number for this switch is EP 0479 000. http://www.allparts.com/5-Way-Oak-Grigsby-Super-Switch-p/ep-0479-000.htm NOTE: The web page photo may be of the wrong switch but you can see how the discreet contacts work.
