Wiring question

I have a Heritage H-150CM and have a question about the wiring. Lets say I have the selector switch in the middle and both volume knobs all the way up. If I lower one of the knobs below 10, I heard a very soft click and that pickup is then disengaged. So, If I have the bridge on 10 and the neck on 9, it'll sound exactly the same as if just the bridge pup is on. If I have both pups below 10, I can blend them and when they're both at 10, they're both on as well. Is this normal? Also, when I have either volume knob on 0 and start to increase it, I can hear a slight crackle right before it comes on. Could I have a wiring problem? I've only had the guitar for a few weeks and bought it new with Seth Lovers.

Re: Wiring question

sounds like there is some kinda problem. my suggestion is to bring it back where ya got it and have them straighten it out. its most likely a simple wiring problem.

hows the guitar sound??

Re: Wiring question

I don't mean to contradict Jeremy, but I can't imagine any kind of wiring "problem" per se, that could cause the type of functionality that you're experiencing. It sounds like something that was purpose built into the guitar. Especially since you hear, or "feel", a slight click. They do make pots with a switch built into them - kinda like old radios that turned on with the volume knob.

However, Jeremy is right, that you'll need to take it to a tech to straighten it out, or to convert it to more "normal" LP-style wiring. It would be hard to rework something like that through the forum. Unless, of course, you wanted to just rip everything out, and start fresh. ;)

Re: Wiring question

Overall, the guitar sounds great. I'll email the dealer I bought it from to see if this is normal. They custom ordered it from the factory, so maybe this was part of it. I just want to make sure they wired it correctly.

Re: Wiring question

Also, I wanted to add, I don't actually feel a click on the knob, but only hear one slightly. I know some pots have a slight indent to engage a particular feature, but this is not the case. However, I'll try to check with the dealer.
