Has anyone tried these two sets out, and what are your thoughts on them.

Trying to to decide between the two sets for my lp studio 60's trib.
I play mainly blues and rock, with a plexitone pedal through a blues jr.

On paper, the wolfetones look like they might have a bit more juice compared to the Duncan's.

I know the Wolfetones well. Excellent, excellent pickups. They cop a pretty good imitation of my original 1950's Gibson p90s.

Hi, these are completly different beasts. The Ant are reedy, woody and vintage sounding, very roundy and low volume. The Wolfetones are still rounder on top (as modern Gibsons) but more into the face and ballsy. Let say the Ants are Jazz and the Wolfetone are Rock. The good thing: if you are experienced with mag swap, you can dial in the Ants as you like it...and keep the vintage reliced look. The Ant are a great basis to mod. I have several pairs of humbuckers in my guitars with mags i love in that certain guitar (and the autographed mags from Duncan look gorgeous on my fridge...:onder: )

Thanks, that was kind of the thoughts that I had as well. I was just wondering how similar/dissimilar they were. I had a pre conceived notion that the wolfetones would be ballsier. (Which is what I am after) I liked the Gibsons that came stock, however the seemingly bassy neck/ thin bridge scenario due to the same dcr wasn't working for me. (Hence the mini bucker and custom p90bucker in it now) but, I missed that good ol p90 drive/grit, so I am going back to them, then calling it a day.
I also like that if I need to tailor the tone a bit with a mag swap, that is a piece of cake with a p90.

Right. Mag swaps can get you things you can't get with stock P-90's, especially since you can put two different mags in a P-90 and blend their characteristics. For me, a thin, bright P-90 bridge doesn't work either, unless I set the amp EQ specifically for it, and then the neck P-90 is too dark and bassy. Using an A4 or A3 in a neck P-90 (with an A5) takes away some low end. In the bridge slot my favorite P-90 mag pair is an A8/A4, which adds warmth, mids, and output. Much better match for the neck PU.

I would like to find the "last" pickup set for this guitar that I don't have to modify..I believe those to be the wolfetones or possibly the ant. P90's. (Leaning toward the wolfes, as they seem to have a bit more muscle)
