I finally got some money together and I can finally afford a Custom Shop Jackson 7-string Soloist. I have a Jackson SL2H and I LOVE IT! Alder body/ Maple neck-through construction and love the '59/JB pickup combonation. I also have a Carvin DC727(7-string) with the same specs as my Jackson (alder/maple, real floyd rose trem, neck-through, '59/JB...) and it sounds like s**t. All the other 7string pickups ive tried (most of the seymour duncan and dimarzio's) sound quite bad also.

So i was thinking this. Mahogany neck-through (for warmth and sustain), because the neck on a neck-through guitar influences the tone more than a bolt-on. And Swamp Ash or Alder body wings for some brightness in the tone.

As for pickups i was thinking 2 EMG 707's, I haven't ever played them but heard good reviews about them. I have a Les Paul with EMG's in it and they sound decent but i dont know if the clean sound is gonna be good (like my SL2H) or have that typical EMG active sound (which it probably will).

Can anyone help me out with this? I want to bassicall take my SL2H and make it a 7-string but my Carvin with the same specs sounds bad. So i have to find a way to this custom better than my Carvin. Also does anyone think a all Korina 7string with EMG pickups would sound good (clean and distorted) I've heard Korina described as "mahogony deluxe".
