Wood sealant on exposed pickup cavities?

I wanted to fit a single coil in a humbucker spot of my basswood HSS and had to take some wood out for it to fit properly. Since the pickup cavities contain the same satin finish as the one covering the body, i was wondering if i need to paint/seal the now exposed wood area. I live close to the beach &:it never snows here, it's monsoon season here infact. The things on my mind that could be a problem are humidity, moisture, rotting, borer, termites, etc that sort of a thing. I don't use this guitar much & it stays in a paded case in my closet.

So if i had to use a sealant, would the furniture type ones do, like some kind of lacquer?

Single coil
Probably some conductive paint for shielding

^Not really a true single coil, its a Fast Track 2. Didn't sound all that great straight in place of the hummer so I angled it & i'm more happy with it now.

Guys I don't have paint lying around at home but i have some polish, maybe varnish not quite sure. That stuff stinks up like paint for a while, i hate the smell of paint lol
Do you guys know of something that doesn't give off fumes for days? I was thinking about super glue or nail polish, both are cheap to get. I only need to cover an area thats ~8mm wide & tapers down to about 4mm for a length of ~25-30mm downwards in the cavity.

Answering as a guy who runs a paint store... if you have that small of an area and there's some fingernail polish hanging around, it'll do the trick. It's essentially a brushing lacquer anyway. Super glue MIGHT work, but you'll have a helluva time spreading it. You also mentioned maybe having some clear varnish around, and that would be ideal as it's made for wood and brushes out easily so the spot isn't as noticeable.
