wood tone

Re: wood tone

I think it's cool but an old, stubborn bastard (like me) would never buy one, no matter what. Well, maybe if it could make me a better player I would. After which, I'd go back to wood ...

That said, probably not the wisest approach to stirring up interest. ;)

Re: wood tone

I dig the use of metal. I don't care if it sounds like wood- if it has its own, unique usable tone that I like, and it plays and balances well, I am all for it. Great work, there!

Re: wood tone

I gave up watching after a few minutes of every sentence beginning with "so". Besides, I prefer different tone metals to steel :-P

Re: wood tone

I like Concert Aluminum and Pro Studio Stainless Steel -- not to be confused with the inferior Food Service Grade stainless. Of course all the great custom shop metal guitars are non-weight relieved bookmatched titanium.

Re: wood tone

Just to be clear, I am NOT bashing the metal guitars. I think they're cool. I'm just having fun with the materials obsession.

Tone metals are a serious subject! :-P

I do wonder about combinations though; Softer nut and saddle compared to the body material, and vice versa.

Re: wood tone

Did we not just revive a 10 year old thread about tone wood? Just as a formal warning to anyone reading this 10 years down the road, anything posted after page 2 on this thread is useless bickering.

Re: wood tone

2K and up for a Tone Metal guitar. Big advantage is that dings and dents can be hammered out and filled with Bondo. Plus there are more auto body and paint shops than luthiers in most cities. And many auto insurance carriers will add riders to cover comp and collision on metal guitars with fairly low deductibles.

Re: wood tone

I scored some tone plastic today, new pickguard for my hs. Distortion and Cool Rails with 500k master volume and 20k master spin a split.
