Woody pickup too small for soundhole

Hi, my eldest son, 14, a fledgling guitar player who is about to get better than his dad who's been playing for nearly 40 years, has been using a Woody pickup, the single-coil model, with his acoustic guitar (cheapo Johnson $150 model) and has loved it. He got a really good guitar (Tacoma DM9 lefty) for Christmas, and was disappointed to discover that the soundhole of his guitar is too large for the Woody to fit into, I'd say the pickup is a good half-inch or so too small. Does anybody have any suggestions of ways to rig this up where it will work, or do we need to be looking for another pickup (if that's the case, would appreciate some suggestions there as well)? Thanks!

welcome to the forum!!

how big is the sound hole? the woody should fit up to 4" or so. i use a magmic which is designed for the same size holes as the woodys and have no problem using it with my acoustics. does the tacoma have an oversized sound hole?

if the johnson had a smaller sound hole its possible that the foam that is used to keep the pup in place has been too compressed and a suitable substitue would need to be used but i havent seen that before.

Sorry to be delayed in responding to this ... Tacoma soundhole is a bit over 4.25 inches, so I guess it's oversized. Anybody got any suggestions for pickups to fit that size soundhole? Or would it be better to try an under the saddle pickup?

the magmic would work but its very pricey compared to the woodys.

not sure what might work for a sound hole pup

the undersaddle pups might be the way to go, but finding a good one that doesnt quack can be hard
