Worse album from your favorite guitarist

What is the biggest disappointment you have ever bought by one of your favorite guitar players. I have a few guitar players that I couldn't wait for their new disk to be released only to be let down in a big way. One that sticks out in my mind was Andy Summers XYZ. I am a huge Summers and Police fan but I found this disk unlistenable.

Uh-oh. I'm rather fond of that album APART from the lead vocalist. ;)

My own nomination is the eponymous Jeff Beck Group album - the one with the orange on the cover.

No, not really, KH isn't my favourite guitarist but I DO love his work on the first five albums a LOT. I don't hate him like so many oafs.
I was really pissed Hetfield and Ulrich did a Jason on him with St Anger.

I get that, but I really like St Anger. I guess because I grew up on music like grunge that was guitar driven but simple. In terms of Metallica, it's not a great album, especially considering that we've seen what they're capable of (Ride is one of my favorites of all time), but if you take away the name Metallica, then it's pretty good.

That album was a bit of a let down but I thought Guitar Shop was much worse.

I grew up a huge Pearl Jam fan, sadly "Backspacer" sucks. Really f'n sucks. I thought I disliked Binaural, but that was nothing compared to Backspacer.

Here's a pretty forgettable song... ick...

I thought Binaural was so good back when she came out, Strangely enough that was the last pj album i listen to.

Tremolo by Paul Gilbert. It's exactly what it sounds like, tons of whammy bar action. Too much. Like the number of solos that Kirk Hammett uses wah on is about how many times Paul uses the whammy bar on the record.

Wtf Freddie/John/Roger/Brian?

Re: Worse album from your favorite guitarist

I was'nt really into the Poppy/AOR-ish stuff Yngwie did after Odyssey. Did'nt really buy any of his stuff after that (except Fire & Ice) until he put out the excellent LIVE!!! (In Brasil) album & then Alchemy with Mark Boals, which was amazing as well. I think I missed out on some pretty good albums in the middle there though...need to go back and have a look at some of them.

Re: Worse album from your favorite guitarist

I got Oz Noy's "new" Twisted Blues album which I really liked, and then got the older Schizophrenic album, which just does not do anything for me at all.

Re: Worse album from your favorite guitarist

Metallica (Kirk and James) aren't my FAVORITE guitarists but that Lulu album.................................................................................. I think I'm one of the few people alive who listened to the whole thing................ It's so bad.................... It's to my ears with black licorice covered in pepper is to my mouth.

Re: Worse album from your favorite guitarist

The latest Slash album - the one with Myles Kennedy singing on all the tracks.

I'm a diehard Slash fan, and I really LOVED his first solo album - so full of groove, variety, and great songs. But imo the second one was a huge disappointment. Every song has the same guitar tone, like they didn't even bother to change settings or amps or anything throughout the whole recording process, and none of them are truly awesome, except maybe Anastasia.

This thing is unlistenable:

Comments from the Rolling Stones on Their Satanic Magesties Request:

Mick Jagger:
There's a lot of rubbish on Satanic Majesties. Just too much time on our hands, too many drugs, no producer to tell us, "Enough already, thank you very much, now can we get just get on with this song?" Anyone let loose in the studio will produce stuff like that. There was simply too much hanging around. It's like believing everything you do is great and not having any editing

Keith Richards:
"the album was a load of crap"

Bill Wyman:
Every day at the studio it was a lottery as to who would turn up and what – if any – positive contribution they would make when they did. Keith would arrive with anything up to ten people, Brian with another half-a-dozen and it was the same for Mick. They were assorted girlfriends and friends. I hated it! Then again, so did Andrew (Oldham) and just gave up on it. There were times when I wish I could have done, too.
