Worst damage to a guitar ever seen..........

Never seen an early '70's Tele thinline custom in the wood until one was carried into the luthiers I was in.

Glum faced person then turned it around and "displayed" a huge hole in the upper bout.

"Sound guy stood on it after it fell over."

We are talking blonde finished ash body here, I hope it gets well real soon but the Doctor is working on it.

If you ever need a guitar repaired/modified or just a loving caress when in Melbourne Australia contact Syndal Music. They do Tommy Emmanuel's guitars (One of only four Certified Guitar Players in the world.)

Worst damage to a guitar that I ever saw was any one of Pete Townsend's after he got done smashing them. I heard that sometimes they could glue them back together.

Re: Worst damage to a guitar ever seen..........

the worst damage i've seen was the tokai SG of my second guitarrist. he was totally wasted and started smashing it against a pretty massive tree in my backyard until there wasn't much left which was bigger than a fist. We all had a good laugh about it since we all were drunk as hell, but in the morning we still laughed ,all except him.

My friend Cris Mirabella rebuilt a mid 70's LP that was Pete Townsends. I was thrown out of a hotel windw and busted in a bunch of pieces. There was a article in 20th century guitars a few months back explaing the whole process.
He also owns(Cris) a mid 50's D'Angelico Excel that was in a shipping container thatwas basically submerged in water. The whole guitar imploded from the moisture. That is a "work in progress" It is amazing to see what a real artist/Craftsmen can do!!

That's pretty cool. Is there a website? I've got a place in my heart for those old D'Angelicos and I'd like to see the progress.

It's interesting to note that Townsend stopped trying to smash Fender guitars onstage. His reasoning, if I remember correctly, was that they just didn't splinter the right way. Ie, they wouldn't break!

This is the link to a restoration Cris did to a D'Angelico model A1. This is his personal guitar. Browse around and look at some of the other restoration projects he has done. He is the BEST!!

Re: Worst damage to a guitar ever seen..........

I've combined my two favorite things, one time. Guitars and guns. I took a harmony acoustic with a warped neck out to the desert, and set it up against an embankement.
That event consisted of me and 2 friends with shotguns and SKS assault rifles, blowing it into sawdust. I think even the trussrod went flying.

Re: Worst damage to a guitar ever seen..........

Worst damage I've seen to a guitar was when I got really wasted a few years ago and proceeded to demolish an acoustic I had over my own head. The guitar looked like Hiroshima when I was finished with it.

Re: Worst damage to a guitar ever seen..........

Funny, you talk about smashing it over your own head. I was at a party where some tweaked out dude started smashing his forehead with the back of an acoustic.
Unfortunately for him, the guitar's back opened up and took a chunk of meat off his forehead. The guy still has a scar from that moment of coked up stupidity. ROFL

Oh my god! who would do such a thing to you?!

Just kidding. The typo made me chuckle, because at first I thought you were saying that you got thrown out of a hotel window so this other guy could have the pete townshend guitar. Was gunna say, damn that's real messed up!

Re: Worst damage to a guitar ever seen..........

sometime ago,i saw bits of the a classical guitars lying around the entrance to my hostel. its really all over the place, the biggest piece was a 2 inch piece form the neck! still dun know how they managed that.
