this is ridiculous.

i visited this repair guy and asked him how much a bone nut costs. he said, "3만원.(25bucks)

c'mon, does he really need to charge me this ridiculous amount of money for a freakin nut?

25 freakin dollars! for a nut!

what should i do? give him the money and have it his own way? :yell:

If I were you I'd check out how much you could get one for from somewhere like Stew-Mac and ask him how much just to install & cut string slots, may save a few $$$

If I could get a new bone nut for $25 that is slotted and ready to go is a good deal for me

On top of the fact that most stores charge you by the hour for repairs like that. Not to mention shaping cuting and filing the nut is by all acounts a difficult and smelly job.

I agree that that's cheap. I think I got charged something like $40 by one of the best guys in Nashville to cut and install a bone nut for me.

The best luthier in town here (and he's REALLY good) charges $35 for a bone nut to be shaped, slotted, and installed for your guitar. Includes a setup too.

thats really cheap. i usually get about $50 for cutting and installing a bone nut, that seems to be the going rate around here

It all comes down to understanding whast is being done. A bone blank has to be shaped, then the slots need to be cut, and if they are cut wrong you need to start over. 25$ is real cheap. Don't walk run!!!!!!

That's not bad, I think my tech charges at least $40-50. You have to remember that this is pretty labor-intensive, in that there is no such thing as a "generic" nut that you just drop in. The nut has to be fitted to your guitar and strings, which takes some time and skill.

i installed a graphite nut on my friends guitar and it took me almost an hour and the string slots were already cut, i just had to fit and set it. 25 is less than i would have charged him and i am no expert.

Dude, it takes time to cut, slot, profile, and polish a nut and to do it correctly. For $25 I would jump on it. Thats a good deal.
