Wow, just got Predator's stock pickup specs.

Just remembered my post on the Peavey forums asking about the Pred's pickup specs. 7 to 7.5k! :laugh2: That's not alot of output, even less then i expected. It's going to be a big jump if i put the Distortion set in. MMMmm....I can hear the pinch harmonics now. lol

I get killer pinch harmonics with my 8.25K Alnico II Burstbucker.

Higher DC resistance kills the top end, but the distortion pickup has a ceramic mag to make up for this.

If your Pred's pickups have ceramic magnets, they could be even more squealy than a Distortion.

How does your Pred sound right now?

It doesn't sound too bad for stock pickups. Clean sounds good, thats actually why i might not go with the Distortion set, afraid of losing my cleans. The pickups almost sound like single coils in the mid position! Suprising amount of quack for humbuckers.

MAn I had a Predator in stock HSS configuration.... I THOUGHT the tones I was getting were sweet until I put the Pearly Gates in the Bridge... Then of course, I had to change the middle and neck SC's... I couldnt get hold of any used SD's quick enought, but I did buy some used Fender Texas "Somethings"... By the time I was done, She WAILED.... Then I got my hands on a good deal for a USA Fender Strat, sold my Predator with the SD's still onboard, and havent looked back....

Not necessarily. I coil tap my Gibson 496R and 500T (similar to a DD, 15K w/ ceramic mags) and they still are mega powerful in single coil mod. Like a really hot and fat tele. Not twangy at all.

I just checked, my original Predator pups measure 15.1k and 15.3k. These were the older MIA ones, with 12 allen pole pieces like an Invader.

In parallel my distortion screw coil with my jazz screw coil sounds very nice, clean or distorted.
